How To: Boost Your LinkedIn Presence
LinkedIn is a fundamental
part of the business world, and if used correctly it can generate leads, grow
your network and be a beneficial platform to share industry information. Once
you have created your profile, and have begun to grow your network you can start
contributing to conversations and sharing engaging content!
Here are some tips on how to boost your LinkedIn presence…
Share engaging content
If you want to get your content seen by more
people, make sure the content you share is engaging - both visually and intellectually!
Sharing photos and videos catch your audience's attention and make them more likely
to interact with it. Studies have shown that articles with images get 94% more
total views! So, whether you use a stock image or one you've created, make sure
you include one to increase your views. But, it isn't just pictures - adding videos,
slides, podcasts, all will give you a boost!
Another
tip to keep in mind when it comes to posting engaging content to LinkedIn is
that the algorithm prefers directly uploaded content. For example - if you want
to share a video, instead of posting the YouTube link, share the video directly
to your feed.
Outside of visually engaging content, make sure
the copy you use is also engaging! Ask questions, share interesting
conversations, and creating polls are all ways to engage your network. In our
blog, "Posting to LinkedIn as a Financial Professional" we talk more about ways
to be a thought leader in your industry!
Finding creative ways to engage your audience and
establish yourself as a forward thinker in your industry will gain traction
within LinkedIn.
Post frequently!
We've covered what kind of engaging content to post, now you
might be wondering how frequently to post! You want to make sure you're posting
often enough to stay in front of your audience, but not so much that you're overwhelming
their feed.
Research
has found that LinkedIn users that post more than 50x a month see an average of
20 engagements per post, while those who post closer to 30x times a month see
an average of 50 engagements and those who post less than 30x a month see
the most engagement!
This lets us know that posting around 2-3x a week is optimal and
will boost your engagement the most!
Be interactive with others!
Interacting
with your peers, people you look up to and share ideas with is one way to boost
your presence. When you engage with others' posts, they are more likely to engage
with you and like/share your posts! This will also get you on more people's
feeds. Another way to be interactive is to tag other users in posts! If you think
that they would find what you're sharing interesting, you can tag them and ask
their thoughts on the topic! That encourages conversation and will up your
engagement!
Highlight other people's posts!
On
LinkedIn, it's important not only to post your own content but to also share posts
by others! Whether you're sharing content, news, and trends, providing insights
by other industry leaders benefits your credibility and can start thought-provoking
conversations. Interacting is important, but sharing is equally as important! It
shows your willingness to collaborate and share the successes of those within your
network and industry!
Be promotional, but not too promotional…
Promoting
your business is important, and you want to use a percentage of your posts to promote
your business. But, think of it this way - you are your business! Post organic content
and share things that are interesting to you. Avoid being pushy and salesy, the
best way to sell yourself is through building your brand and being a thought leader
within your industry! If you are consistently posting engaging content you will
build credibility and be a name that people can rely on! That means that when
they are in need of your product or services, you will be where they go!
Focus
on building your network and facilitating engaging conversations, and let the
promotion be generated that way!
Create LinkedIn-specific content
LinkedIn
has similarities to other social media platforms, but there are also important
aspects of it that are unique. Since it is more business-oriented, focus on posting
content that speaks to that part of your life. Personal touches are always encouraged,
but your professional connections want to see what you're interested in, what you've
been working on, and who you've been working with! Create posts that are unique
to LinkedIn and that cater to the type of audience you have on the platform because typically the people that you're connected with on LinkedIn are different
from that of your Facebook friends, or Twitter followers.
Another way to create
LinkedIn-specific content that will boost your presence is to join groups. When
you join a group you can share those unique and engaging posts you've created
with the group members. This is a great way, not only to build more like-minded connections
but to increase your engagement! You can search for groups in the search bar -
look for groups in your industry, your interests, or any other topics of interest!
Use hashtags
Hashtags
are a great way to boost your presence on LinkedIn. It makes your posts more discoverable
by people outside of your network and can also help get your post in front of
people who are interested in the topic. By adding those topic-specific hashtags, it will categorize the post and will make it more accessible. Make sure to add any
relevant hashtags and check to see what hashtags are currently trending to see
if there are any topics you could chime in on. Hashtags are another way to optimize
your content and make it easier to locate when people search for specific
topics within LinkedIn.
Use analytics
LinkedIn provides you analytics to help boost your
presence. If you click the 'Me' icon at the top of
your homepage, and then press 'Posts
& Activity'. Once you've done that, you can see all of your
posts in chronological order. They will have a button under each of them that
includes analytics.
Using these you will be able to tell which of your posts did
well, and which didn't perform as well. That gives you the opportunity to take
note of what your audience enjoys and how you can channel that for future
posts. It will help you better cater to the preferences of your connections and
others within your industry.
As
you can see, there are plenty of ways to boost your presence on LinkedIn. From engaging
content to optimization - you can build your brand and facilitate great
industry conversation. We hope this blog gives you some insight on how to
better utilize LinkedIn!
