11 Marketing Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

We all know the feeling of needing something different, other than your favorites artists' newest album on Spotify, to listen to. Whether during your morning commute, your hours of busy work, your run at the gym, or anywhere you find yourself wanting something different to listen to, podcasts are the way to go! Podcasts are usually available for free, you can listen to them anywhere anytime, and they allow you to learn about a new industry or subject. What could be better?

Let's first take a look into how podcasts first came to be.

Invention of podcasts

We are going to travel all the way back to 2004, the year of The Notebook and the early days of Facebook. This iconic year was also the birth year of podcasts. Podcasting was primarily developed by a man named Adam Curry and a software designer by the name of Dave Winer with the help of a program called iPodder. iPodder basically gave users the ability to bring internet radio broadcast on the road with them on their iPod (This was prior to the invention of the iPhone in 2007). At the time, podcasts were called "audioblogging", as blogging had just recently became a big deal with the development of Blogger a few years prior.

This was one of, if not the, first time people were transporting digital media with them that wasn't a simple MP3. Since the invention of iPodder, developers have built on this original idea and podcasts were born. Podcast listeners can enjoy their favorite programs on multiple platforms, including iTunes, Stitcher and Spotify.

Rules and Regulations

The thing that's unique about podcasts is that they are free from government regulation. This means that all types of language, content, and topics are allowed in the podcast world. The world of podcasting gives podcasters complete reign and creative ability.

While podcasts are free from government regulation when it comes to content, podcasts are still subject to copyright laws. The creators can copyright their work, so you know as a listener that the ideas are original!

If you take a look around, there are podcasts for virtually any topic you can think of. From celebrity insights and interviews to true crime to business and marketing related podcasts, there truly is something for everyone.
